Increased transparency in political processes

The party programme makes independent and democratic popular movements a cornerstone of the party's strategy and ascribes deep significance to the labour movement for people's power. A requirement for individual consent for organisations' political contributions intrudes on precisely that internal association democracy and weakens that independence. The plan therefore supports the counter-proposal's demand that this part be rejected, while transparency in financial interests and lobbying aligns with the plan's critique that economic power is converted into political.

The plan makes union-political cooperation into its own commitment and wants to strengthen trade unions' position and freedom of association. A demand for individual consent from each member for organizations' political contributions directly targets that cooperation the plan wants to protect. The plan therefore supports the demand that precisely that part is rejected, while its demand to prevent undue influence speaks for the transparency rules otherwise.

The plan values freedom of association and explicitly wants to encourage trade union organizing, and that support and conditions for civil society shall be long-term and clear. A requirement for individual consent for organizations' political contributions intervenes in the organizations' own decision-making procedures and weakens their ability to act. The plan meanwhile stands behind increased transparency about advocacy work, which the counter-proposal does not object to. The requirement for rejection in precisely this part is therefore supported.

The plan requires that rules for financing political parties be tightened and that parties' resilience against external influence be strengthened, and it is based on the individual's right to themselves determine their own choices rather than imposed collectivism. A requirement for consent from individual members before an organisation gives party political contributions is in line with both these commitments. Therefore the counter-proposal's requirement that just that part be deleted is rejected.

The plan takes no explicit position on what the committee actually decided — often because the committee's reason was procedural. The stance is derived and fully cited, but it does not show the party broke a commitment.

The plan proceeds from the fact that it is always the individual person who decides which communities she wants to belong to, and wants parties' financing to be regulated in law. A requirement for consent before an organization's funds are used for political purposes follows from the individual's political self-determination. Freedom of association speaks partly against it, but does not bear the counter-proposal's demand for rejection.

The party programme requires strong but party-politically independent trade unions and a democracy where each citizen has real influence. A requirement for consent from individual members before an organization provides partisan financial contributions protects precisely that individual's political self-determination. The counter-proposal wants to reject this part, which the plan does not support, even though the principle that the parties themselves govern their fields of activity points partly the other way.

The plan's consistent principle is to assert the individual against the collective and to strengthen the individual's freedoms and rights against organizations and authorities. A requirement for consent from individual members before an organization provides political donations is precisely such a strengthening of the individual's self-determination. The counter-proposal wants to reject that part, which the plan speaks against.

The election manifesto explicitly identifies that trade unions and other organizations are tied to political parties in a way that risks distorting democratic prerequisites, and wants to depoliticize their role. Rejecting this part, as the counter-proposal does, therefore goes against the plan's commitment to depoliticization and free opinion formation.
