Measures in Vulnerable Areas

The election manifesto states that young people with foreign backgrounds in poor areas face racism and police brutality, and that trust in the police requires major changes in how the police work. It also rejects repression and harsher measures as a first-hand solution. The party programme demands that the justice system be organized so it does not reproduce structural racism. The counter-proposal's demand for reinforced diversity work and trust-building in neglected areas instead of more repressive proposals follows directly from this.

The election manifesto's commitment is to fight both crimes and the causes of crime, with at least one krona to prevention work for every krona to more police, and the party programme is explicitly anti-racist and wants to work for interculturalism. The counter-proposal's demand for strengthened diversity work and increased trust in disadvantaged areas aligns with this. However, the plan's simultaneous demand for uncompromising crime-fighting speaks against the counter-proposal's rejection of repressive measures.

The party programme requires that a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives is represented within police, prosecution and courts and that structural discrimination and racism shall cease. The election manifesto moreover prioritizes preventive work in socioeconomically deprived areas over repression.

The party programme moreover establishes that structural racism in all forms shall be counteracted.

The plan's line for disadvantaged areas is that police shall get the tools to everywhere uphold law and order and that power shall be taken back from separatists, with residence restrictions for convicted criminals as an explicit means. A counter-proposal that wants to replace repressive measures with diversity assignments goes against that commitment. That the plan simultaneously requires that the state with force combats discrimination does not change the direction of police work in these areas.

The plan wants to streamline the police's mission to crime-fighting and meets problems in disadvantaged areas with more police, tougher sentences, strengthened families and a strict migration policy. The counter-proposal wants instead to impose on the authority an explicit long-term diversity and multiculturalism mission instead of more repressive proposals. That goes against the plan's priorities, even though the plan also values close and trusting contacts between police and public.

The plan's line in disadvantaged areas is more police, search zones and more gang criminals imprisoned — exactly the repressive measures the counter-proposal wants to replace. The plan also wants to focus the police's mandate on detecting, investigating and solving crime, not broaden it with a diversity and trust mandate. The party programme explicitly rejects collectivism as the starting point for how individuals are judged.

The plan states that focus on preventive integration measures that have not proven to work shall be abandoned in favour of a revised criminal policy direction, and that multiculturalism has divided Sweden. The counter-proposal's demand for strengthened diversity work and multicultural competence in the police instead of repressive measures goes directly against this. The plan therefore argues against the demand.
