The election manifesto establishes that blind faith in the market is yesterday's politics and that the future cannot be left to the market forces' whim. The counter-proposal advocates exactly a market-liberal and trade-oriented industrial policy, which conflicts with the plan's requirement for a more active state industrial and rural policy and common solutions where the market fails. That a review of support measures is requested does not change that the proposal's core requirement is a market-liberal reorganization.

The party programme states that it is politics' responsibility to form the market's conditions and that the economy must be adapted when it conflicts with the ecological system, and that economic policy instruments and market regulations shall be used for the transition. A market-liberal shift in economic policy goes against that fundamental view. The requirement for clear and long-term rules the plan shares, however.

The party programme establishes that Sweden's prosperity is built through global trade, that Sweden shall be a strong voice for free trade and that the regulatory burden for small businesses shall be reduced, with rules that make it easy to do what is right. The counter-proposal's market-liberal and trade-focused economic policy with clear long-term rules and a review of support measures is precisely that line. The plan moreover limits the public sector's own business activities to cases with a strong societal interest.
