Weapon Amnesty

The plan's line is that fewer weapons should circulate and that fighting access to firearms is a central part of crime prevention. A weapons amnesty that makes it possible to surrender weapons anonymously reduces precisely the amount of weapons that can end up in criminal environments. The measure is furthermore of the preventive kind the plan prefers to repression.

The plan says nothing about weapons amnesty, but it requires measures against weapons and a forceful combating of the organised crime whose violent capital rests on access to illegal weapons. An amnesty that reduces the amount of weapons in circulation serves that purpose and that the state's monopoly of violence is maintained. The plan says nothing about weapon amnesty. The closest principle is that law enforcement agencies shall have the capacity to both combat and prevent crime and that prevention is the most powerful measure. An amnesty that reduces the quantity of weapons in criminal environments is a preventive measure in that spirit, which is why the plan most closely supports the counter-proposal.

The plan is silent on weapons amnesties, but makes efforts against gang criminality and fewer weapons in criminal environments a central priority, including starving gangs of their assets. The party programme states that criminal policy should prevent crime, not just punish. A time-limited amnesty that reduces the amount of weapons in circulation is in line with that principle, so the counter-proposal's demand is supported.

The plan establishes that all crimes should be effectively and without exception pursued and that respect for laws should be maintained with firmness, with swift prosecution of offenders. The plan requires that measures be directed against illegal weapons and gang crime rather than against legal weapon owners, and believes few measures are too far-reaching to push back gangs. A weapons amnesty reduces the quantity of illegal weapons in circulation without burdening legal hunters and sport shooters.
