The election manifesto condemns all threats of use of nuclear weapons and holds fast to the goal of a world free from nuclear weapons, and the party programme makes military disarmament a fundamental task with a leading Swedish role for non-proliferation. The counter-proposal's demand that Sweden remain a strong disarmament actor and that nuclear weapons on Swedish soil risk breaching the non-proliferation treaty follow directly from these commitments. That the plan also wants to see Sweden in Nato does not change the disarmament commitment.

The election manifesto commits to ratifying the nuclear weapons convention and introducing a law that prohibits nuclear weapons on Swedish territory, and the party programme wants Sweden to take the initiative for international disarmament and lead the way. The counter-proposal's requirement that Sweden remains a strong global disarmament actor regardless of how the cooperation agreement is formulated, and its objection to nuclear weapons on Swedish territory, coincides with these commitments. The plan also sees the elimination of nuclear weapons as a goal.

The closest principle is that total defence shall be re-established and be war-deterrent and that Sweden shall be armed for the deteriorated security situation, where bilateral agreements and defence alliances strengthen security.
