Areas for nuclear power and offshore wind power

The plan explicitly rejects nuclear power expansion and establishes that radical expansion of renewable electricity production is decisive. The counter-proposal wants the state to refrain from designating new nuclear power areas but takes a joint responsibility for designating areas for offshore wind power. The plan also wants the state to increase its control over the infrastructure that the climate transition requires and invest in renewable energy.

The plan highlights that offshore wind power can contribute considerable energy and wants to break bureaucratic barriers for more electricity. That the state takes overall responsibility for pointing out new areas for offshore-based wind power follows directly from that commitment. That any new nuclear power is kept within the existing energy agreement aligns with the plan's requirement for a broad energy agreement.

The party programme's vision is a society with one hundred percent renewable energy without nuclear power, and the election manifesto's energy promise is to double the production of emissions-free electricity and make Sweden Europe's green battery. That the state points out new areas for offshore wind power but not for nuclear power follows from that. The plan requires the exact opposite: the state shall designate sites so that nuclear power actors can quickly begin construction, and more new reactors shall be enabled at more sites. The fact that the plan simultaneously sees offshore wind power as important only means that it wants both, not one instead of the other.
